Update From President Smith

Kiwanians, here is an update of Wilmington Kiwanis Club News.

1.  Our next meeting, May 27 is a Club business meeting. The first item on the agenda

will be consideration of two alternative proposals formulated by the Board of Directors

to address the shortfall in our administrative budget due to increased meeting costs.

Proposal 1.  Increase dues by $15 per quarter for all membership categories (regular,

senior member, or on leave). Require Board members to pay for their own meals at

Board meetings. Continue the weekly meeting schedule.

Proposal 2.  Change the Club meeting schedule by making the first Wednesday of each month

the Board of Directors meeting time, rather than a Club meeting. Require Board members to pay

for their own meals at Board meetings. Continue the current dues.

Information will be provided about our budget, including what our dues go for. Some comparative

information about other clubs will be available. After time for discussion, the club membership will

     vote on the matter.

Also at next Wednesday’s meeting, we’ll learn more about the Club website.

The open heart surgery that Steve Warwick’s son Rob had on Wednesday

was successful, and he is recovering.

and all the others who participated.

5. Rick Zigler and Larry Sneeden delivered the first crib in our new Kiwanis Cribs for

    Kids program.

6. The contracts have been let for the joint City/County Olsen Park project, including

five ball fields, concession stand, and  a Kiwanis Playground. Chris Benedict and

the Committee are preparing for the July kickoff for our campaign to raise a

matching $75,000 to build a great playground.

7.  In case you missed it, we had great meeting last week when we got to meet and hear

from some our UNCW scholarship recipients. It was a pleasure to welcome

.  members of the Chadwick family to join us, and to see the high quality of students

     selected by the Scholarship Committee.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend.
